Bench Scrapers Compared: OXO, Lamson, and King Arthur

Compare OXO, Lamson, and King Arthur bench scrapers using manufacturer specifications, with practical advice on handles, blade sizes, and cleanup.

A bench scraper can divide dough, gather chopped ingredients, and clear flour from a work surface. Choosing one comes down to the blade, handle, and cleaning routine you want. A wooden handle may appeal to you; it is less convenient if everything in your kitchen goes into the dishwasher.

This is a research-based comparison of manufacturer specifications checked October 13, 2026. We have not hands-on tested these three tools. Recommendations below are editorial judgments about their listed features, not measured performance scores or customer ratings.

Three options at a glance

Tool Main reason to consider it What to check
OXO Good Grips Multi-Purpose Scraper & Chopper Dishwasher-safe construction and measurement markings Whether you prefer its soft handle to wood
Lamson Dough (Bench) Scraper Two listed blade sizes and a walnut handle Size choice and hand-washing requirement
King Arthur Bench Knife A stainless blade with a walnut handle Current care instructions and whether the handle suits you

Read the exact listing before ordering. Similar-looking tools can have different dimensions, and a retailer’s product title may refer to a different version.

OXO: the practical starting point for easy cleanup

OXO lists a stainless steel blade, quarter-inch measurement markings, a soft nonslip handle, and dishwasher-safe care. The manufacturer describes uses including portioning dough, lifting ingredients, and cutting brownies. Those are concrete reasons to consider it if you want one scraper for baking and everyday prep. OXO product details.

Our recommendation: start here if dishwasher compatibility is a priority. The markings may also be useful when dividing a rolled rectangle into portions, though they do not replace weighing dough when equal weight matters.

The tradeoff is mainly preference: a molded soft handle offers a different feel from walnut. We cannot judge grip comfort for your hands from specifications alone. If possible, handle the tool before buying.

Lamson: choose the blade size deliberately

Lamson lists 3-by-6-inch and 4-by-6-inch versions with walnut handles and American stainless steel blades. Its product page says the wooden-handled tools are not dishwasher safe and cautions that scraping can scratch some surfaces. Lamson product details.

The useful distinction is the choice of blade height. Think about what you actually lift: a small portion of dough, a broad sheet of pastry, or chopped vegetables. A taller blade may suit one job while taking more drawer space. Neither size is automatically better.

Our recommendation: consider Lamson if you want a walnut-handled tool and are comfortable washing it by hand. Confirm the selected size in your basket; do not assume the main product photograph identifies the variant being sold.

King Arthur: another wood-handled option

King Arthur’s Bench Knife combines a stainless steel blade with a walnut handle bearing its logo. The company describes it as a tool for dividing dough, handling bars and brownies, and cleaning a work area. King Arthur product details.

Our recommendation: put it on your shortlist if you already shop for baking tools there and prefer the wood-handled style. Compare its current dimensions and care information with the Lamson option before deciding. Branding by itself is not evidence of better scraping or longer life.

If you want a tool for getting sticky dough out of a rounded mixing bowl, check whether a flexible bowl scraper would better suit that separate task. King Arthur distinguishes its metal bench knife from a rigid plastic scraper in its scraper guide.

Buy for the job you repeat

Choose the cleaning routine first, then the blade shape and handle. Avoid paying for features you will not use. One well-chosen scraper is a more sensible starting point than a set of almost identical tools.

Keep your work surface in the decision. Check its care guidance before scraping it with metal; a tool sold for kitchen prep is not automatically suitable for every countertop or nonstick surface.

Which would we choose first?

On the listed features, OXO is our starting recommendation for someone prioritizing dishwasher cleanup. Lamson and King Arthur are alternatives for someone who prefers a wooden handle. This is a suitability recommendation, not a test winner.

Can a bench scraper replace a kitchen knife?

It can portion dough and move ingredients, but keep your knife for tasks requiring a knife’s cutting edge and control. Choose the tool for the actual job rather than trying to make every utensil multitask.
