Lodge Cast Iron Mexican Skillet Review
The uniquely designed pan made for Latin cooking. We tested the Lodge Spanish-style skillet for traditional recipes.
Lodge Cast Iron Mexican Skillet Review - Quick Verdict 4.4 stars. A specialized pan with traditional roots. Introduction - The Lodge Spanish-style skillet has shallow sides and two handles, designed for classic Latin dishes like migas, frittatas, and reverse tortillas. First Impressions - The shallow 1.5-inch walls are different from a traditional skillet. The dual handles are practical for maneuvering. The preseasoned surface is ready to use. Performance Testing - I tested the pan for migas, scrambled eggs, quesadillas, and roasted chicken. The shallow sides make flip and fold easier than a deep pan. The heat distribution is even. The pan retains heat well when adding cold ingredients. Specs - 12 inch diameter, 1.5 inch depth, dual handles, preseasoned, about 5 lbs. Pros - Shallow sides great for folding and flipping, dual handles, preseasoned, authentic traditional design, great for Latin dishes. Cons - Limited versatility compared to standard skillet, heavy at 5 lbs, takes longer to heat. Alternatives - Standard Lodge 12-inch skillet or Matfer Bourget carbon steel. Final Verdict - A niche pan worth having for specific cooking styles. Not an everyday pan but excellent for its intended use.
